Day 1 - Arrive Amsterdam
Start your unforgettable European adventure in Amsterdam. If you can tear your eyes from its scenic canals, you'll be staring at the city's teetering gabled homes that proclaim their birthyear with pride on their colorful facades. There's no better way to immerse yourself fully in Amsterdam's gezelligheid than taking an optional visit to a working windmill and meet local artisans.

Day 2 - Amsterdam – Cologne – Rhine Cruise – Rhine Valley
From Amsterdam’s leafy canals to the towering spires of Cologne, your morning will be jam-packed with sights you’ll want to capture on camera as you head east into the lush landscapes of Germany. View the imposing Gothic Cologne Cathedral, then head to Boppard, where you’ll board a river cruise down the Rhine. Pass storybook villages, terraced vineyards and medieval castles where feuding lords must have surveyed their lands once upon a time. Watch the soul-stirring scenery of the Rhine Valley unfold as you kick back and watch the world go by. Arrive later at your hotel where you’ll join your travel companions for dinner.

Day 3 - Rhine Valley – Black Forest – Rhine Falls – Lucerne Region
Straight out of a Brothers Grimm fairy tale, Germany’s Black Forest is the perfect backdrop for this morning’s scenic drive. You’ll see why its enchanting landscapes have inspired myths and fables throughout the centuries before crossing into Switzerland. A quick stop in Schaffhausen means there’s time to witness the cascading waters of the Rhine Falls, Europe’s biggest waterfall, before you arrive in the scenic region of Lake Lucerne.

Day 4 - Lucerne orientation and free time
Join your Travel Director for an orientation through the Old Town to view the ancient Chapel Bridge and Lion Monument. Hear the story of the mournful lion hewn from rock to commemorate the sacrifice of the Swiss Guards who died defending Louis XVI during the French Revolution. You’ll then have the full day to discover why Lucerne earned its place on the 'Grand Tour' of Europe. You could choose to ascend to the alpine heavens, joining an optional scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne, then travel by railway and cable car into the mountains for exhilarating views. Later, consider a Choice Experience to a Swiss folklore show which will highlight many Swiss traditions including yodelling and alpine horn playing.

Day 6 - Paris sightseeing and free time

There’s time to see the sights on your own this afternoon. Cosmopolitan Amsterdam is most famous for its narrow, gabled houses lining the canals. Interesting attractions include the medieval weighhouse, Royal Palace on Dam Square, and New Church. Its most glamorous industry is the diamond trade. Not too far from Amsterdam are the flower centers of Aalsmeer, the picturesque fishing villages of Volendam and Marken, cheese markets at Edam and Gouda, and historic Haarlem, the main center of the bulb-growing industry. Enjoy the city’s sights from a glass-topped sightseeing boat which passes characteristic gabled houses and negotiates picturesque arched bridges. Facing Dam Square, the Royal Palace was built in 1648 and is still officially the royal residence, although the royal family resides in The Hague. The marbled Citizens Hall with inlaid maps of the world is worth seeing. One of Amsterdam’s most visited sites is historic Anne Frank House. Rijksmuseum, the city’s most prestigious museum, houses the largest collection of Dutch paintings in the world. Van Gogh Museum houses a striking collection.

Amsterdam: The Three Sisters, Delft & Den Haag - 8 Hours

You are met at Amsterdam port for a full-day excursion outside of the city. Head south into the countryside for a photo opportunity at the impressive Three Sisters Windmills in Stompwijk. As over a third of the Netherlands lies below sea level, windmills were initially designed to pump vast amount of water out, thus protecting land from flooding. Today, these silent giants draw many visitors every year for their charming appearances.

From here, you travel on to Delft, world-renowned for its famous blue and white pottery and one of the most beautiful towns in the Netherlands. Take in the town’s architectural gems and charming ambience, which are best appreciated by walking along its small canals with their graceful humpbacked bridges.

Following this, enjoy a privately-guided tour at the Royal Delft Experience, where a painter shares the passion behind the production of this stunning 17th-century earthenware during a special demonstration.

After lunch at leisure, you continue to the Hague, the home of the Dutch Royal Family and the administrative capital of the Netherlands; walk the Inner court past the Government buildings and take the opportunity for a photo stop at the International Court of Justice. You may like to visit the Mauritshuis Museum, which holds one of the world's finest collections of paintings, including Rembrandt, Steen, Hals, Rubens and Van Dyck, or you may choose to visit the Panorama Mesdag, which hosts the Panorama, one of the largest canvas paintings in the world (subject to opening times).
